Meet Yung Koprowski:

Engineer, Entrepreneur, Leader

Thank you for your interest in my firm!  My name is Yung Koprowski, and I am the owner and entrepreneur behind Y2K Engineering.  I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.

I grew up in Queen Creek, just outside of the Phoenix area.  My father was an electrical engineer, constantly gutting and improving our home with his own designs.  As such, I took an early interest in design and construction.

Throughout my college career and into my first several years as a professional, I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, building affordable housing for the working poor. Along the way, I became a house leader and discovered my passion for engineering.

While studying at Arizona State University, I had the opportunity to intern with two local engineering firms and obtained my engineer-in-training certification.  Subsequently, I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Since then I’ve obtained my Professional Engineer license and received certifications as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer and Road Safety Professional Level 1.

Notably, my work has included:

  • The Phoenix Bicycle Master Plan, which prioritized and identified $52 million in infrastructure improvements

  • The 2015 Maricopa Association of Governments Strategic Transportation Safety Plan, which identified safety needs to reduce fatalities and serious injuries in the Phoenix Metro area

  • Systems engineering for adaptive traffic-signal technology at 51 intersections along a 15-mile segment of Bell Road

  • Conducting road safety assessments in the Phoenix and Denver Metro areas to identify safety countermeasures for all road users

  • Design of sensors to collect arterial-road travel time in the cities of Mesa, Gilbert, and Tempe

  • 83rd Ave and Thunderbird Rd signal timing improvements which saved over $3M in intersection widening costs

  • Safe Routes to School (SRTS) studies for numerous schools in Arizona and a 5-Year SRTS Action Plan for the City and County of Denver

  • Preparing Tempe’s Vision Zero Action Plan

  • Systemic safety studies, dynamic data analytics, and pedestrian and bicyclist crash typing for Peoria, Gilbert, and Phoenix

  • Design of on-street bicycle facilities and safety enhancements at intersections and crossings

Since its founding in 2017, Y2K Engineering has received the following honors:

  • 2018 ADOT Business Engagement & Compliance Office, DBE Trailblazer Award

  • 2021 CDOT Mentorship Program Participant

  • 2021 WTS Employer of the Year

My personal history of leadership and recognition includes:

  • Past President, Intelligent Transportation Society of Arizona (2011/2012 President)
