Job Summary

The Traffic Designer/Engineer-In-Training (EIT) position is an opportunity for individuals to develop on-the-job experience related to traffic and transportation engineering under the direct supervision of an experienced professional.  This role will assist the project manager and engineering team with traffic impact analyses, traffic design, active transportation planning & design, ITS design and evaluation, and safety studies. A typical day may include data collection, field review, data analysis, report preparation, participation in client meetings, creation of meeting materials and minutes from client meetings, assisting other team members in project duties. 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a focus on Transportation or Traffic Engineering preferred.

  • E.I.T. Certification (successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam).

  • No formal work experience required.  Relevant internship or 1-2 years entry-level related work experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, a plus

  • Proficient use and fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Cloud Plus, required.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Project specific duties will include: data collection, field review, data analysis, report preparation, participation in client meetings, creation of meeting materials and minutes from client meetings, assisting other team members in project duties.

  • Work with management team to deliver technical reports, infrastructure and data visualization, presentation slides, construction plans, specifications and cost estimates.

  • Assist in preparing project deliverables related to traffic operations analysis and simulation.

  • Complete traffic impact analysis, traffic engineering studies and transportation planning.

  • Ability to prepare signing and striping plans.

  • Build plan sets and other documents using Civil 3D/AutoCAD.

  • Perform field data collection as required.

  • Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects as necessary.

Reporting Structure

  • This position will report to Project Principal.

  • This position will not have direct reports.

Travel

  • Travel on an as-needed basis, primarily to visit project sites within Maricopa County and (at times) throughout Arizona.

Office Physical Requirements:

All positions in our office require interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on company business are subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain acceptable driving records. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on company business shall maintain the statutorily state required liability insurance.
